A sassy, soulful stage show featuring J. Rosalynn Smith-Clark, that celebrates the accomplishments of African American Female Performers. This journey of song and dance will begin with the fabulous “La Baker”, Miss Josephine Baker, and move on to celebrate great Divas, Funky, and otherwise, up until today’s Hip Hop- Neo Soul Sistahs. From the visionary mind of director and choreographer Brandy Thilesen, Emerge Contemporary Dance Company presents their debut performance, “8”.  Together with guest choreographers, Danielle Peig, of the Sonya Tayeh Dance Company & Erica Sobol, creator of collidE Dance Company, Brandy Thilesen’s raw, edgy, high impact choreography is brought to life by the talents of the Emerge dancers.  This collection of gifted dancers is comprised entirely of pre-professionals between the ages of 15 and 20, some of which will be emerging as artists themselves by presenting their own debut choreography in “8”.  With the charged energy of this collaborative effort of emerging dancers, choreographers, a costume designer, a light designer, and make-up artists, Emerge Contemporary Dance Company is going to electrify the El Portal theatre with “8”.
