Adult Ballet LA is moving into its third year under the artistic direction of former New York City modern dancer and choreographer Phillip McAbee. In fall of 2012, Phillip McAbee was sitting in his cubicle trying to resolve some computer issues with an online Learning Management System (LMS). He took a short break, walked outside and realized that he was missing his true love, dance. At that moment he decided to start teaching a ballet class on Saturday mornings for adult dancers providing the full dance experience from classroom to stage at a high artistic level. This was the genesis and mission of AdultBalletLA. McAbee's dancers look to his class for not only physical fitness but also a place to release stress and embrace self-expression after a long day at a high pressured job. That beginning level ballet class started three years ago and still meets every Saturday at 12PM at Hollywood Dance Center. AdultBalletLA is now moving into its third year with 13 dedicated adult dancers. The upcoming performance at El Portal Theater June 11th will premier Kafka’s Metamorphosis a ballet in one act danced to original score by Gregory Lenczycki. Along with four other dances Degas, Holberg Suite, Rite, and Duet. If you always wanted to dance classical ballet and thought, it was to late, think again.
